I believe first and foremost that the client must feel heard, seen and known. After that, it's a collaborative process to negotiate between what the client presents with, asks for, and what different modalities I can offer you to help you on your journey. Then it becomes a discussion about what will work best for you and what your preferences are. I like to help my clients feel that they are in charge of their therapy, inasmuch as that is possible. I want my clients to feel empowered in getting what they need out of therapy. This involves asking for what you want and letting me know what you like and don't like as often as possible. I invite you to share your thoughts and feelings with me freely at any time. Part of my job is helping you to find the words to say it when you get stuck. Articulating your feelings, letting yourself be known, and finding new ways to look at your life story, new ways of seeing yourself, is the path of healing. Also learning new skills and getting help developing new habits can help. Some people feel that asking for help is a sign of weakness or that only crazy people have to go to therapists. Actually it is the healthier people that are strong enough to ask for professional help. It takes courage to heal. Being able to let ourselves be known by another and to to be vulnerable, takes strength and courage, but it can be very rewarding. Feel free to give me a call or send me an email, and ask for a free phone consultation. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have and to chat with you about what’s going on in your life, to help you get a sense of whether you feel comfortable talking to me or not. It needs to be the right fit.

Licensed Professional Counselor (#9485) in North Carolina; Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (#1342) in Montana. M.A. in Humanities; M.S. in Mental Health Counseling; intensive post-graduate training in Hakomi Body-Centered Therapy and in Intensive Dynamic Therapy

I see my therapy work as a collaboration between myself and the client. Our first task is to get clear on what difficulties my client wants my help with. Then we work together to identify patterns in her or his life that may be contributing to or sustaining those difficulties. Our next task is to support the client's own will and social resources to deactivate these patterns and replace them with more satisfying ways of getting his or her needs met and building more fulfilling and reciprocal relationships with others.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor/therapist in North Carolina. In addition to offering in-person therapy for individuals and couples in Asheville, I offer online therapy through the telephone and Skype. Fluent in Spanish, I work with both English and Spanish speakers. A long-time meditation practitioner, I received my Masters degree in Contemplative Psychotherapy from Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. In addition to my private practice, I am also the founder and executive director of Open Path Psychotherapy Collective (www.openpathcollective.org). I have been actively working in the mental health community since 1996. I work with couples and adult individuals. My specialities include helping people who are suffering from anxiety, symptoms of depression, or those who have experienced some sort of trauma. I believe in helping my clients become more mindful of their experience, which enables a greater tolerance for a variety of emotions. My clients typically tell me that while a sustained, constant sense of happiness remains beyond their reach (it is never my goal), after working together the hard times become more manageable, and life in general feels more workable. It’s my belief that the more we can allow ourselves to become safely acquainted with that which is not pleasant, the more we are able to fully experience joy in our lives. My office is located in the Jackson Building in downtown Asheville. I’m on the 10th floor where I get to enjoy one of the lovelier views in Asheville. If you would like to make an appointment, or talk about the possibility of making an appointment, please get in touch through my contact page, or give me a call at: 828.772.6029.
